1. Why are We Changing Our Name?
We are considering changing the name of our church.
First and foremost, we want our name to be welcoming to the community in accordance with our purpose statement, “We lead people of all ages and stages to real transformation in Christ.”
To many people, the name E-Free is confusing and that confusion may prevent them from getting to know us. Because of that, we want to remove any barriers that get in the way of “real transformation in Christ.” Second, some of the confusion that our name can create often means that an explanation is needed regarding what our name means and what it doesn’t. Unfortunately, if people are confused by our name we may never have the opportunity to build a relationship with them.
2. What is the Process for Changing Our Name?
Leaders of our church have been discussing the possibility of changing our name for several years. In the spring of 2019, a team representing various ages and stages was formed to begin this process.
Throughout this process, the congregation will have the opportunity to voice their thoughts in the form of town hall meetings. Additionally, the team welcomes your thoughts and questions.
You can contact the team via email: namechange@efcb.org
After a thorough and deliberate process, the team will make a name change recommendation to the Elders. The Elders will then decide whether or not to proceed. If the Elders approve the name change, the proposal will be brought to the congregation for an affirmation vote.
3. What Details are Involved With Changing Our Name?
Changing our name will involve updating our signage, website, and printed materials. It will also be important to communicate to our community that we are only changing our name and nothing else.
4. What Stays the Same?
Everything about our church will stay the same except the name. We will still be connected to the Evangelical Free Church of America. Our mission, vision, and values will remain the same. Our leaders, staff, and ministries will still continue to serve you and our community.
The only thing that will change is our name.
